AnjTalksAbout: Little Free Library at UP Town Center

On one of the two instances I’ve hanged out at UP Town Center, I saw this sign about a free book library. Little Free Library is an international movement which started in Wisconsin. Todd Bol and Rick Brooks saw an opportunity to promote literacy and the love of reading with small shelves and free books. When I heard of this, I told myself “Yay for more book swapping opportunities!”

I was able to check it out earlier last month, with books in tow. I hoped to exchange them for other titles and find new owners for the ones I brought. After a couple of errands, I headed to UP Town Center. The sign said that the library is near Coldstone so I headed toward that place. What I found was this:

Mostly empty shelves with battered books. Saddening, really.

So, I did the only thing I could do at the moment: leave books. I left a Walt Disney pocketbook of Rescuers Down Under and two volumes of Vault.

I have taken one book, though. It’s a book of Indian folk tales by Manoj Das.

Here’s hoping that there would be more people who would share and fill the cabinets with books. It’s not as famous as The Book Project Manila since it isn’t that active in social media. May this post help it a bit more. 🙂

XOXO,
Anj

PS: The photos were taken some time ago so I am not sure if the shelves still look like this. Here’s hoping that there are more books now~ Will go back sometime soon. :3
